  • In this article, we'll cover tips to start selling automotive parts on Amazon and dive into the details of how to maximise your potential. Selling automotive parts is no longer limited to garages and physical stores. The world of online automotive sales is booming, and Amazon is the destination for customers that want to access a vast selection at competitive prices and with faster shipping.

    Why sell vehicle parts online?

Selling through Amazon is a great way to reach customers all over the world. The average age of cars has increased considerably in recent years. Today, many consumers choose to extend the life of their vehicles and use Amazon to find the necessary spare parts.

I have created my account: what are the best practices that I should follow?

Whether you’re already established in the automotive industry or new to e-commerce and ready to build your digital boutique, there are some considerations for selling automotive parts online.
Choose which products you want to sell
Even if you already know what type of products you want to sell, some research may reveal other opportunities worth pursuing. By selling on Amazon, it is easy to check which products are the most popular. This allows you to anticipate trends and to react to the changes that will characterise the automotive sector in the years to come.
    Figure out your fulfilment strategy
Dimensions and weight matter when you’re storing and shipping automotive parts. A spare room or garage might be sufficient to cover your storage needs when you first start, but as you scale, you might want to coordinate with a solution like Fulfilment by Amazon for warehouse management.
List your products and set competitive prices
When you're ready to sell your products, consider including high-quality photos and using bullet points to highlight product features and benefits. To determine the selling price for your products, do some research into your competitors to see how much comparable items are selling for.
    Add compatibility information (if needed)
If your listings are compatible only with specific vehicles, make sure that you have added the relevant information by using our internal compatibility tool. When purchasing automotive parts, customers need to know which items fit their vehicle. This can help ensure higher conversion, higher sales and reduced compatibility-related returns.

To perform a bulk upload, you will need to add compatibility information using the Master Vehicle List (MVL). The MVL is a data repository of vehicles that are currently operating in a specific region. This list is now available to all Selling Partners selling automotive items on Amazon. Using it for your catalogue will help customers find your products. The MVL provides you with a unique KTYPE for each vehicle.

Download the MVL for all locations:
    Terms of Use
The data contained in the Master Vehicle List may only be used in connection with the listing of products on Amazon for the following locales: Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden and Poland. The MVL also contains compatibility data for Austria-based customers, which will be used for listings on Amazon.de. The right to use the MVL is dependent on the provision of the MVL by Amazon. If Amazon stops providing the MVL, your right of use automatically expires.

The MVL may only be used in connection with new parts. Use of the data contained in the MVL (“Data”) for the used parts trade is not permitted. Used parts are the parts that have previously been fitted to a vehicle, with the exclusion of replacement parts or parts that are remanufactured or reconditioned. Any further use or dissemination of the Data is strictly prohibited. Unauthorised use of the Data will result in damage claims of the rights holders and may also result in fines or other penalties. In accessing and using the MVL to place an offer within the Amazon online stores for Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden and Poland, the user must abide by the obligation to assess the compatibility of the spare parts with a given model of vehicle lodged by the user. The MVL also contains compatibility data for Austria-based customers, which will be used for listings on Amazon.de.

When downloading and using the MVL, the above Terms of Use apply and are accepted by users.

How can customers make sure that they find the right parts for their vehicles?

Customers can find the products that fit their vehicles by using Partfinder, our internal tool that allows customers to register their vehicle and filter only those results that fit for the specific car or motorbike. This tool uses compatibility data shared by our selling partners.

Some examples of prohibited listings include: airbags, counterfeit spare parts, automotive equipment without the necessary ECE certifications (for example, LED headlamps for cars), vehicle airbag inflators and airbag components, vehicle seat belts and seat belt components, fabric systems, blue flashing lights for cars that simulate the function of those used by emergency services, licence plates with the official emblem of the Italian Republic presented as approved or not intended only for decorative purposes.

Popular categories include air and oil filters, brake pads, light bulbs, engine oils and wiper blades, as well as tyres, batteries and LED lights. Accessories like wheel covers, floor mats and detailing kits also perform well.

To maximise your sales, make sure that you provide clear compatibility details, high-quality images and competitive pricing to enhance customer trust and conversion rates.
What fees are associated with selling automotive parts?
The fees for selling automotive parts on Amazon are the same as those for other categories. Sellers can choose between two selling plans: Individual and Professional. For more details about the fees associated with each plan, you can visit our dedicated page.
What is the Master Vehicle List (MVL) and how does it help with selling vehicle parts on Amazon?
The Master Vehicle List (MVL) is a database of vehicles currently operating in a specific region, available to all Selling Partners selling automotive parts on Amazon.
The MVL provides sellers with a unique KTYPE for each vehicle, enhancing the accuracy of listings, reducing returns due to compatibility issues and improving the overall customer experience. It also helps sellers to comply with Amazon guidelines by ensuring that compatibility information is properly included, thus increasing your sales and visibility on the platform.

The MVL may only be used in connection with new parts.
Why is including vehicle compatibility crucial when selling auto parts on Amazon?
When selling auto parts, compatibility between the vehicle model and the spare part is vital. Without this information, there's a high risk of errors and returns.

To address this problem, Amazon created a database of vehicles, making it easier for both buyers and sellers to find the right parts. This resource helps to minimise compatibility issues and ensures a smoother buying and selling process on the platform.
