In a hyper-competitive market, Transparency gives you the edge

"But most importantly, we haven't had any brand infringement attempts for any of the products that we’ve registered with Transparency."

General Manager, OcioDual

How to stand out in a saturated market

What's the secret to success in one of the most saturated retail sectors?

Jorge Hernández Jimenez from OcioDual seems to have discovered it.

In the last 10 years, his brand, which sells consumer electronics and computer accessories, has grown despite operating in an extremely competitive market.

Based in Alicante, on the beautiful Spanish Costa Brava, OcioDual buys all its stock in bulk. This means that its customers – both retail and business, including resellers – can take advantage of the most competitive deals on the market. However, it's the quality of the products and the excellent customer service that sets them apart from the competition.

"We have extremely high quality standards", Jorge says. "We also work with a world-class logistics company that is located a stone's throw away from us. We do everything we can to ensure that our customers are 100% satisfied."

The real deal

Standing out in the crowded consumer electronics and computer accessories industry is very difficult. When people counterfeit products, it can affect quality and subsequently damage a brand's reputation.

Consultancy firm CSC Global considers consumer electronics to be the product group with the highest number of counterfeits in the world, with revenues of $169 billion (approximately €142 billion). It falls on brands to protect their products from potential infringements and to help customers verify that their purchases are authentic and safe.
"Very often", Jorge notes, "customers don't know exactly who they're buying from. So if they're not satisfied, they blame us. As a result, we'll start to be associated with these poor-quality products".

In addition to profiting off a brand's hard work, most counterfeit products circumvent the rigorous health, safety and quality controls that genuine products undergo. As a result, customers unknowingly buy defective, potentially dangerous, products that don't meet standards. This can lead to a loss of trust in the brand, its reputation and a decrease in sales.

Making it official with Amazon Brand Registry

Jorge had started selling OcioDual products on various websites. Amazon, however, proved to be the most promising channel and not only in terms of sales performance. Jorge was also interested in the range of brand protection tools offered by Amazon.
Amazon ensures that your brand is protected. All you have to do is list the products, and Amazon takes care of the rest.
Jorge started by registering OcioDual as a trademark. This allowed him to register with Brand Registry and start using protection tools such as Report a violation, and to sign up for other brand development programmes such as A+ Content and Sponsored Products.
His experience with Brand Registry prompted Jorge to take the next step and sign up for Amazon Transparency.

Adopting best practices

When Jorge learned about Transparency through another seller's listing, he was very impressed. "It seemed like a simple and effective tool", he recalls.

Implementing Transparency had an immediate positive impact for OcioDual.

"Customer satisfaction has increased", Jorge says. "Sales have increased. Now we can once again focus on ensuring that our products always meet our rigorous standards: our goal is to provide customers with products of exceptional quality."

The key element that convinced Jorge was the fact that Transparency is a proactive and preventive programme, rather than something that can only be used after a product has been counterfeited and detected.

"Before, we were the ones who had to contact the sellers. If they were counterfeiters, we had to bear the legal fees. With Transparency, we've solved this problem. We don't have to worry about exposing counterfeiters."

"Transparency takes a huge weight off our shoulders"

Market research predicts that by 2025 the computer accessories market will be worth $284 billion (around €239 billion), while the consumer electronics market will be worth more than $1 trillion (around €842 billion).

Because Transparency has helped strengthen its reputation and brand, OcioDual is well placed to make the most of this opportunity.

"Business is going great", Jorge says. "We’ve grown compared to when we didn't have Transparency, while other companies have seen a decrease in sales."
Transparency has helped us increase revenue by 30%. And most importantly, we haven't detected any trademark infringement attempts on any of the products that we've registered.
Given these figures, Jorge has no doubt that signing up for Transparency is the way to go.

"With Transparency, you can focus on improving products without having to worry about others selling lower-quality products and damaging your reputation. It's 100% peace of mind."
