FAQ

What is Fulfilment by Amazon?
Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) is a service where Amazon will take care of storing, packing and shipping your products, handling customer support and returns.

When you sign up for FBA, the first thing you'll need to do is pack and ship your products in bulk to one of our fulfilment centres.

FBA also has special programmes for specific types of products to suit your business, like Low-Price FBA, Pan-European FBA, FBA Subscribe & Save, Multi-Channel Fulfilment and FBA Heavy & Bulky.
Is Amazon FBA really profitable?
Selling in the Amazon store with FBA can be very profitable. Your sales may achieve a boost of up to 35%* as a result of free faster delivery that customers love.
Is Amazon FBA good for beginners?
Yes, Amazon FBA is a good option for beginners with small or medium-sized enterprises.

Over 225,000 European small and medium-sized enterprises and brands sell on Amazon, and many of them use Amazon FBA to access Amazon's world-class customer service and returns, along with other advantages, such as automatic Prime eligibility. These benefits can help their businesses scale quickly.

Learn more in our "beginner's guide to selling on Amazon".
What can I sell with Amazon FBA?
What you can sell on Amazon FBA depends on the brand, product and category. Some products are open to all sellers, while others may require a professional seller account.

Check out the list of restricted products and products that are not eligible for FBA. To sell branded products that are protected by copyright, patents or trademarks, you must be either the owner of the business or an authorised reseller. To sell refurbished or pre-owned items, you need to qualify to sell on Amazon Renewed.
What is "fulfilment"?
The entire process of receiving, storing, picking, packing and then shipping orders to the customers, including returns or exchanges, is called fulfilment.
To fulfil an order, you can opt for in-house fulfilment, third-party fulfilment, Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) or multi-channel fulfilment.
How do I get free storage, removals and return processing?
The FBA New Selection programme makes the launch of new products on FBA more accessible by offering free storage, free removal and free return processing of your new-to-FBA ASINs. In addition, brand owners who complete Brand Registry can take advantage of a monthly rebate of 10% on average for their sales of branded ASINs. If you're a new seller, you'll be enrolled in the programme automatically if you create your first shipment to our fulfilment centres within 90 days of listing your first buyable ASIN.
What's the difference between FBA and FBM?
FBA is Fulfilment by Amazon and FBM is Fulfilment by Merchant. With FBA, Amazon handles the entire fulfilment process for you; whereas with FBM, the merchant (you) is responsible for storing, packing, shipping and delivering products to customers.

FAQ

What is an Amazon FBA seller?
An Amazon FBA seller is any e-commerce business that sells products via an Amazon store and is enrolled in the Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) programme.

Amazon takes care of logistics and operations for FBA sellers, while FBA sellers themselves are responsible for selecting their products, shipping their inventory to Amazon FBA fulfilment centres and ensuring that the inventory is always up to date.
How do I prepare my products for shipment to the fulfilment centre (FC)?
To prepare your products in the best possible way, watch this video to learn how to label, pack and send your first FBA shipment.
What happens once my FBA shipment reaches the Amazon FC?
Once your products are shipped to the FC, you can track the progress on the Shipping Queue page under the Shipments tab. Shipment statuses are:

Delivered: your shipment has been delivered to the FC, but not yet checked in.
Checked in: your shipment has been moved from the facility yard to the dock door and is ready to be unloaded.
Receiving: scanning of your shipment ID labels and units is in progress; they will be available for
sale once they have been processed.
Closed: all units in your shipment have been positively received. If your products were in transit to an FC prior to the shipment being closed, your shipment will continue to be received. Do not, however, send inventory on a closed shipment as this may result in overage charges and the inventory not being properly received by the FC.
How much does FBA cost per item?
There are different fees based on which FBA services you opt for:

1. Fulfilment fees charged per unit sold, inclusive of packing, shipping, handling, customer service and returns.
2. Monthly Inventory Charges based on the inventory in the Amazon FBA fulfilment centres.

Amazon's estimating tools like Revenue Calculator, Fee Review Report and Manage Your Inventory will help you estimate your FBA fees.
Are all Prime orders fulfilled by Amazon?
No, not all Prime orders can be fulfilled by Amazon.

For items that don't work well with FBA, like those that don't move quickly or the demand for which is hard to predict, there's Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP). This is a programme available to Amazon Prime members who can ship orders directly from their warehouse or storage location.
How does Amazon handle customer returns/refunds and customer service for my FBA orders?
With FBA, Amazon provides customer service and handles returns for all your FBA orders on your behalf.

Returns: when a customer-returned product comes back to a FC, the condition of each item is assessed to determine if the item is sellable or unsellable. If sellable, it will be returned to your inventory and made available for purchase again; if unsellable, we will assess who caused the damage and determine the eligibility for reimbursement.

Refunds: a refund is a customer credit for all or part of the cost of a purchased item. In some cases, customers are issued a "return-less refund", meaning the customer isn't required to send the item back to the fulfilment centre but will still benefit from the credit. Some items that are not eligible for return may be eligible for a refund.

FAQ

How does Pan-European FBA work?
After you've sent your products to an EU fulfilment centre, we'll store your inventory across our fulfilment centres in the EU countries that you enabled for inventory placement in order to meet anticipated customer demand. We distribute your inventory across these countries at no additional cost. You can track your Pan-European FBA offers by using all of your standard reports and tools.

Pan-European FBA will only become active for a product after two conditions are met:
1) You have created an active FBA offer in all of the Amazon European stores listed as required on Pan-European FBA inventory.
2) You have sent your products to an EU fulfilment centre and enabled inventory placement in at least two countries among Germany, France, Italy, Spain or Poland. Belgium and the Netherlands are currently not options for Pan-European FBA inventory placement.
How does Remote Fulfilment between the UK and the EU work?
This programme allows FBA sellers with an EU account to store their inventory in local fulfilment centres and fulfil orders from other EU stores, maximising inventory control and flexibility. To sell between the UK and the EU using Remote Fulfilment, you must have the following:
• Access to both the UK and the EU stores in your Seller Central account.
• Shipping programmes and export settings enabled. For EU-to-UK fulfilment, all EU stores must be enabled for export (Germany, Italy, France, Spain). If you have more than one EU account, each account must be managed separately.
What is FBA's Manage Excess Inventory?
Amazon FBA's Manage Excess Inventory tool helps you track listings that have excess inventory and provides you information to take relevant action, as well as suggestions to improve the inventory performance. It helps you evaluate product demand and costs, seller inputs and price elasticity, identifies problems that may be affecting your product sales and gives you options for selling your inventory.
What is the FBA sell-through rate?
The FBA sell-through rate is the number of units sold and shipped in the last 90 days divided by the average number of units in stock. The average number of units in stock is obtained by taking snapshots of the inventory levels on the particular day in question, as well as 30, 60 and 90 days before that.

Your Manage Inventory Health Report on Seller Central shows your recommendations to improve your sell-through rate.
What is FBA's stranded inventory percentage?
A listing may become stranded if it was not created properly in the first place or if it gets suppressed. If this happens, it starts collecting storage fees but is not available to be sold because the listing is not active.

Your performance is measured by the percentage of your FBA inventory units that can't be bought on Amazon right now. This is called the "stranded inventory percentage".

What is the FBA Restock Tool?
The FBA Restock Tool helps you keep track of how many items you have in stock so that you can meet customer demand; it suggests which products to restock, how many to order and when to ship them.

This smart optimisation tool helps you predict when to replenish your items in stock, while taking into account your variable costs, expected revenue and future demands. The recommendations help you get the best return on your inventory investment by keeping just the right amount of inventory. What is FBA's excess inventory percentage?
The excess inventory percentage is the percentage of your FBA inventory units that are excess or remain unsold for more than 90 days.

Excess or aged inventory negatively impacts the Inventory Performance Index (IPI), which measures how well your inventory is doing over time.

Your IPI score provides an indication of how you are managing your FBA inventory. Your performance dashboard helps you find ways to increase sales, cut costs and keep track of key performance metrics.
What is the FBA in-stock rate?
The in-stock rate tracks how successfully you maintain popular goods in stock.

This accounts for FBA goods that have had sales in past 60 days only. It doesn't account for items without sales or for seller-fulfilled products (i.e. products for which you handle the storage, packing and shipping).

In Seller Central, this metric is shown on the inventory dashboard and updated daily. Maintaining a 90–100% in-stock rate is considered good.
What are the FBA recovery services available?
Amazon provides programmes to help FBA sellers recover value from customer returns and excess inventory. With the FBA Grade and Resell service, sellers can recoup value from unfulfillable customer returns by having them professionally graded and relisted as used items. With the FBA Liquidations programme, sellers can sell off excess or unsold inventory through Amazon's liquidation channels to recover some of the original cost. Enable FBA recovery services on Seller Central.
